Our third show in January is another first for us – MRketNY, the fall / winter menswear show at the Javits Center, New York, January 18^th - 20^th. It’s a new show for us because in the past we’ve always exhibited at the Collective, which for years has been the established New York menswear show. Now it seems the momentum has shifted in favour of MRketNY .

Our booth number is 434. It will be hard to miss as it will be spread across 2 aisles at the centre of the hall. Dents will be sharing the booth with three other great European brands, Corgi Hosiery of Wales, Breuer menswear of France, and Codis Maya cufflinks of England. All four of us share the same US sales agent, Jim McKenry of the Bird Dog Group, who you can meet at the show too. If you can’t make the show  and  you have plans to visit New York in the future, you can arrange to see Jim at our New York showroom at 130 West 57^th Street, Suite 5E, to view any (or all!) of the four collections.

 Winter weddings are wonderful and the one I went to on Saturday was just perfect.

The good thing about winter weddings is that you expect cold dark weather and dress accordingly.

The church was warm but not overheated, important when you know all the guests will be arriving in coats. Faux fur was everywhere, from coats and jackets to trims and handbags and added a real touch of glamour to the occasion. Fascinators have definitely taken over from hats, although interestingly quite a few of the teenage guests were wearing beautiful large hats and looked stunning. Gloves were everywhere, mainly longer line dark leather gloves.

A great touch on Saturday was that as everyone left the church, they were greeted with a glass of hot toddy, a warming welcome as the pictures were taken and people gathered around before heading off for the reception.

As with most weddings today, the service was followed by a reception that went on well into the evening. The winter coats and jackets covered a variety of evening wear, from quietly tailored dress and jackets to full blown sequinned party outfits. I think the biggest problem the wedding guests had was with bags.  You don’t really want to carry a tiny sequinned party bag at an afternoon church service; yet you also don’t want to spoil your evening outfit with a formal day bag.

Luckily with the selection of beautiful handbags around today, many of the guests had got it exactly right; with a medium size semi-formal bag that was perfect for both the church and the evening celebrations. I saw two guests carrying the same Dents handbag (medium sized satin frame bag with a jewel clasp) but luckily in different colourways; and one guest had been clever enough to choose the Dents reversible frame clutch bag which changes from croc printed PU to satin; she had chosen violet which matched her outfit and not only did she look terrific, but it turned out she was one of the best dancers of the evening.

Christmas used to be fun because of all the parties. Now, with the added popularity of winter weddings, December has turned into one of the top social months of the year.

It’s back to Europe for the second on our list of trade shows this season: Pitti Uomo, the premier international menswear exhibition, on 12^th to 15^th January 2010 in Florence, Italy.  Dents will be exhibiting its fine collection of leather gloves and small leather goods. There are several reasons why you may want to seriously consider a visit to our stand this year:  first and most important, our wonderful Creative Director, Deborah, will be at our stand for the whole of the show, so this is a unique opportunity to tell her what you think about the Collection, and what you’d like to see. Second, we’ll be sharing the stand with our sister company, Corgi Hosiery, and Corgi’s Managing Director, Chris, will be at the stand (so you can tell him what you think, too). Third, of course, there’s the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful cultural experience that is Florence.

We’ll be kicking off our busy 2010 trade show season with our first ever appearance at the Accessorie Circuit Show in New York, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, January 5, 6 and 7, 2010. This is a women’s spring merchandise exhibition, and we will be showing our exciting and colourful spring collection of gloves, handbags and small leather goods as well as some highlights of our fall collection.

This extremely popular and well established show, which is only open to exhibitors who have passed a strict selection committee, will be at the Show Piers NYC, 12^th Avenue at 55^th Street, New York City. Opening hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday. The show is only open to retailers and trade, and you can download your registration package here.
